CALLING ALL CHILI CHEFS! Held on Saturday, September 16th, the 2023 K’STAR CHILI COOK-OFF & CAR AND BIKE SHOW features competitors from Hill Country Businesses as well as individual Home Cooks with a “burning” passion for a good chili!
If you or a business you work for would like to participate in this year’s competition, complete the 2023 Chili Cook-Off Entry Form, entry fee is $25.00. Single entry or teams welcome, team maximum is 5 people.
Your finished chili will be provided for sampling to the general public who will vote for their favorite chili, so make your entry unique, interesting, and most of all DELICIOUS!
All proceeds benefit K’STAR Emergency Children’s Shelter and Family Counseling Center.
COOKING GUIDELINES Welcome to the fun of cooking competition chili! These guidelines provide helpful hints as you enter the world of competitive chili cooking.
Chili must be cooked on site the day of the cookoff. All chili must be prepared in the open (no cooking in motorhomes, etc.)
Chili must be cooked from scratch. "Scratch" is defined as starting with raw meat, fresh vegetables, and spices. Commercial chili mixes are not allowed.
Cooks are to prepare and cook chili in as sanitary a way as possible. Cooking conditions are subject to inspection by event coordinator or his/her designee. Failure to comply is subject to disqualification.
Must make at least 3 Lbs. of Chili for general public sampling.
Please, NO MSG or PEANUTS are to be used.
WHAT TO BRING
Cooking stove and fuel – “Coleman-type” propane or white gas.
Cooking pot, cutting board, knife, water, cooler (for meat and liquid refreshments), paper towels, spoons, can opener, and matches.
Meat (hand cut or chili grind), spices, and other ingredients for chili.
Table and chairs – for cooking and sitting. You generally will have a 10' x 10' cooking and show space (Booth/Tailgate).
Sign(s) identifying your chili team name.
Chili booth, decorations, props, costumes, anything to make it fun and memorable.
Organizers will provide sample cups, spoons, napkins and voting boxes. You will not have access to electricity.
SCHEDULE
Set up at 7:30 am.
Cooking can start at 8:00 am.
Serving the public will begin at 12:00 noon.
People’s Choice Voting Boxes will be collected at 3:30 pm.
Winners will be announced in The Pavilion at 4:30 pm.
JUDGING
Judging will be by People’s Choice.
Each Business and Home Cook will be given a Voting Box to place in their show space in a visible location.
The general public will vote by placing a ticket in the Voting Box of their favorite chili.
There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for both Businesses and Home Cooks.
